Birds of the World is a fully collaborative ornithological platform that brings together deep, scholarly content from several celebrated works of ornithology with millions of bird observations from eBird and multimedia from the Macaulay Library into a single platform where biologists and birders can explore comprehensive life history information on birds.

The Birds of the World database, which was newly published in spring 2020, incorporates the Handbook of the Birds of the World Alive (HBW), Birds of North America (BNA) and Neotropical Birds databases, among others.

The Cornell Lab offers flexible pricing and access arrangements that allow all or designated members of an institution complete access to Birds of the World species accounts. Pricing depends on the industry and size of the organization, the nature of use, and the number of potential users. A minimum of 5 users is required to qualify for an institutional subscription. Access is typically granted seamlessly through IP address verification, referrer URL, or remote username and password.
