Inhalt :: Content Kritische Gesamtausgabe der Romane und Erzählungen des US-amerikanisch-britischen Schriftstellers Henry James (1843–1916). James war bekannt dafür, seine Werke obsessiv zu überarbeiten. Lange Zeit galt die von ihm selbst zusammengestellte "New York Edition" als Standard, in der er jedoch viele seiner frühen Werke radikal umgeschrieben hatte. Die Cambridge Edition geht oft einen anderen Weg: Sie bevorzugt in der Regel die Textfassung der Erstveröffentlichung (entweder im Magazin oder als erste Buchausgabe), um den Lesern die Werke so zu präsentieren, wie sie das zeitgenössische Publikum ursprünglich kennenlernte. Die Bände enthalten eine ausführliche Einleitung, die die Entstehungsgeschichte, die zeitgenössische Rezeption und die Publikationsbiografie des jeweiligen Werks beleuchtet, umfangreiche erläuternde Anmerkungen sowie einen textkritischen Apparat. Das Editionsprojekt ist auf insgesamt rund 30 Bände angelegt. |
